DarkCandles.com [Dec. 18th, 2006|06:22 pm]
Product Junkies!

[mood |pleasedpleased]

Back in late November I made an order @ Dark Candles. Someone had sent me a nearly-full bottle of their simmering oil in "Lilith". I tried it a couple of times and was impressed by the scent and product.

It arrived in roughly 3 weeks, which is fine. They said up to 18 days, and since some of my order wasn't made up until I ordered, that's pretty good timing.

I got:
Single Wax Melt (1 Pumpkin & Spice; 1 Vintage Spice; 1 Clove)
1oz Simmering Oil (in Vintage Spice)
Slinky Minks’ Pure Shea Butter (1 Forbidden Fruit)

The wax melts are good-sized (probably the same as Yankee Candle's) and melt quickly and evenly. I tried the Vintage Spice first and it was nice, not too spicy. The Pumpkin & Spice was much more to my tastes, perfect for the fall/winter. I'd order more in that scent. I've yet to try the Clove melt and the Simmering Oil.

I'm not sure if I prefer the simmering oil or the melts; I find the melts are nice because you pop the tin in the freezer and they pop right back out.

I used the Slinky Minks’ Pure Shea Butter. The only other shea butter I've tried was the lotion from FeMaledictions. This one was a lot more lotion-y then FeMaledictions.

(Note: this could be due to the fact it's rather warm in my condo because I have two industrial fans and a dehumidifier trying to fix water damage. The picture at the site shows it as a solid.)

It goes on smoother, but I'm not sure it made my skin as smooth as FeMaledictions' did. Further tests will be required. The smell of the Forbidden Fruit is awesome; very tropical and sweet!

All in all I'm rather impressed and would consider spending my money at Dark Candles again.

(Also: I ordered a FeMaledictions limited edition Shea Butter soap in "Flicker" in the irate jack o' lantern shape. I haven't used it yet.)

[mood |impressedimpressed]

Someone sent me a 3/4th full bottle of DarkCandles.com's simmering oil; I've never tried their products before, so it was kind of a surprise.

The simmering oils come in 1oz bottles, with an eyedropper cap. They run about $4.99, which isn't too bad, but then I don't really know much about simmering oils to begin with.

The scent I received was "Lilith", part of their "Vampire Collection". The scent description on the site is: "Very carnal, feminine, and sexy. Based with succulent raspberry and a deep natural patchouli."

Normally I have to be wary of patchouli, but I was pleasantly surprised with this scent. I love raspberry, and it's not an over-powering raspberry. It mixes nicely with the patchoili, making this kind of sweet and sour scent.

I put maybe five or six half-full squeezes from the eyedropper into my tart burner (it's metal, with a candle underneath, so I figured it'd work) and it was just enough to cover the bottom of the metal pan. I've let it go for a little over an hour now and it's filled my condo completely.

The oil hasn't burned smoky at all (I'm just now noticing some, but it's burned down some) and it's an even distribution in the scent.

I might actually look into buying more, now that I've tried it!

Further news & NEW PERFUME Launching! [Sep. 19th, 2006|08:59 pm]
Product Junkies!

[mood |excitedexcited]

We have terribly exciting news regarding the launch of a BRAND NEW ladies fragrance from Beyond the Pale. This one has (like Pearl's Flourish before it) been inspired by reading the erotic memoirs of 19th Century courtesan, Cora Pearl (and goodness, they do bring a blush to the cheeks of even the most jaded of minxes, you know!)

This fragrance is named Jamais avec les domestiques after an "admirable French motto" that Cora Pearl noted but eventually chose to ignore completely. It means "not with the servants", dears, but she did with the servants (only very good looking ones, naturally) several times. Shocking! The better known phrase, employed in English bourgeois homes when the conversation became intimate in nature, was "Not before [or 'in front of'] the servants". In her Memoires she writes:

Up to that time I had always embraced the admirable French motto jamais avec les domestiques; but my observation of the boy's passion for me had me roused to try him. As he gave me his hand to help me step into the bath, I told him to remove his livery, for, said I, it had cost several hundred francs, and I was not eager it should be soiled".

A thoroughly naughty, flamboyantly sensual perfume; a provocative blend of amber, vanilla musk, nutmeg, vetiver & just a touch of clove. For ladies who conduct themselves serenely in Society, but with licentious abandon behind closed doors...

In order to better gauge how many boxes to purchase from our supplier, we are allowing you to PRE-ORDER this perfume before its official launch. This also gives you the benefit of knowing you have snagged yourself a bottle, rather than waiting until launch day and discovering (as usual) they have all sold out within a matter of an hour or so!

Pre-Order 'Jamias avec les domestiques' directly from Beyond the Pale!Collapse )

Cora Pearl: Infamous 19th century courtesan: [Sep. 9th, 2006|01:38 am]
Product Junkies!

Sneaky peaks on our journal tomorrow of a brand new fragrance to be launched soon... It's called Pearl's Flourish (the name is deceptively innocent, it's quite terribly shocking when I tell you what the slang means, you know!) and is made to celebrate the infamous 19th century courtesan, Cora Pearl.

If you want to read more about her, you should certainly consider purchasing the excellent book, Courtesans by Katie Hickman. A fabulously informative yet gossipy read!

Alternatively, you could seek out Cora's very own memoirs (now sadly out of print) - I am so fascinated with her that I have done just this and cannot wait to read it. Sounds as though it may be incredibly scandalous...

The erotic reminiscences of the best known courtesan of the Second Empire, revealing the most intimate secrets of lovers from every level of society-even, she claims, the Emporer Napoleon III himself. Recently William Blatchford discovered these authentic memoirs in the private library of a German collector. Cora Pearl discusses in the most graphic detail the sexual prowess and predilections of lovers famous and humble; tells of her erotic exploits on horseback; invents, then ignores, the motto "jamais avec les domestiques:; and describes her presentation at dinner, cream-decked, as an exquisite final dish.

How marvellous. :)

Hullo darlings - do hope it's acceptable to post this link here. If not, please contact me and I shall remove it forthwith. Hope it proves to be of interest, though!

The first two FULL SIZE (10ml) bottles of fragrance to leap from our latest releases & on to eBay are Rake's Blend and Doxy... grab them whilst you still may, my dears. We absolutely cannot guarantee how long it will be before we sell out of these, and then we shall move on to others from our latest range. PLEASE HURRY if you want your favourite!

Rake's Blend: Frisky ginger warms the cockles, with vibrant Virginian cedarwood nestling against clove bud; the freshness of pure spearmint & the irresistible pull of musky vanilla. Both sexes should wear this with caution: ebullient ravishing is likely to occur...

Doxy: A darkly fruity blend of blackberry, spice & all things vice. Juicy blackberries burst with warm hints of ginger, a sprinkle of cinnamon and musky vanilla. The freshness of bergamot whispers of more innocent times, but the richly aromatic, intensely carnal note of vetiver has its wicked way at last...

Product Junkies!

[mood |excitedexcited]

Greetings again, dahlings - we are back and raring to go. The sojournment took longer than expected, as we were stuck in the middle of nowhere in a farmhouse with no internet connection, then delayed further by illness & travel mix-ups. Practically a trip back in time!

Those who pre-release Rakes Blend should have them by now. Apologies for the delay in waiting for labels - we eventually had twice as many labels arrive from America! Oddness.

Those who had mix-ups in their orders have been sent out again, you should be receiving them very soon. :)

Now, onto the juicy part of this missive:

We are now pleased to be taking advance orders for FULL SIZED 10ml bottles of ALL our latest release perfumes!

These advance orders are prior to our making them available on eBay, and to gauge interest so we may stock up enough not to run out in the first few hours, which we all know happens all the time, and leaves great swathes of you gnashing teeth & pulling out hair.

Click the link below to order directly from us. All 10ml bottles are the usual price of £9.99 with £1.50 P&P for UK customers, £3 International. You may order as many as you wish, with a discount for ordering several if you pay for them in one transaction. Paypal only at the moment, please. HURRY!

PS: We cannot give you an exact date when these will be sent out as we need to wait for the boxes to arrive. I'll be ordering these tomorrow based on how many orders have come through already & how many more are likely to come through in the next few days; but they should start being sent out in the next coupls of weeks. As usual we shall announce this well ahead of time so you'll know whehn to expect them. :)

I hope you are as excited as I am - I know many of you have been waiting an awfully long time to get your hands on the full sizes!
